Who We Are

Ten years ago, I was inspired to create a peaceful place for creatives to come together, find inspiration, and make their own magic. Today, I’m thrilled to offer the workshop area as your canvas, the darkroom as your studio, and the kitchen as your playground. The atmosphere is joyful, and after a productive day, you can relax by the fire or in the Speakeasy with tasty cocktails and stories. Your perfect getaway is ready!

American Storytellers by Andy Thomas

Imagine being privileged to sit around a camp fire with a few of the American Storytellers from different eras of our great country. This wonderful scene of these famous men gathered under a full moon to share their amazing stories could only be created by the very talented Thomas. History comes to life as these gentlemen of various walks of life recall people, events, and places. As one of the American Storytellers enthralls the group, who will be next with a great tale of his own? Can you identify each of these American Storytellers?

Charles Russell, Benjamin Franklin, Frederic Remington, Andy Thomas (the artist of the artwork), Will Rogers, Ernest Hemingway, Ronald Reagan, Teddy Roosevelt, Mark Twain, Bill Cody and Norman Rockwell.

A Dream Inspired by Art: The Story Behind The Get Away Hill Country Campfire

Years ago, while visiting the Houston Livestock and Rodeo, I discovered a piece of art that deeply inspired me—"American Storytellers" by Andy Thomas. I hung it in my studio as a reminder of a dream: to create a space where people could gather and share their stories around a campfire.

That dream is now a reality with The Get Away Hill Country's campfire area. It’s a place for connection, creativity, and the timeless tradition of storytelling under the Texas sky.

We invite you to come, gather, and let the firelight spark your stories. Here’s to the dreams of many and the storytellers yet to come..

Take care,
